Introduction, Delivery and Effective Implementation of P/CVE National Action Plans

Date of Post

20 March 2019

The P/CVE National Action Plans (NAP) Task Force convened a workshop during March 2019 on the Introduction, Delivery and Effective Implementation of P/CVE National Action Plans with delegations from Cameroon and the Maldives.

The workshop introduced participants to the global history and architecture surrounding the development of NAPs as holistic P/CVE approaches in complementing Rule of Law responses to violent extremism. The workshop also aimed to provide a forum for both delegations to share knowledge of the drivers of violent extremism within their contexts.
The Task Force endeavors to support the development of pathways from drivers of violent extremism to the creation of effective evidence-based responses, while helping raise awareness of good practices in National Action Plan development and implementation, introducing accessible phased programmatic approaches. While conducting this workshop, the Task Force explored the role of community policing in preventing violent extremism, focused on key strategic communications elements for NAP delivery and used case studies to help participants develop a preliminary NAP in the Maldives and Cameroon.
Finally, the workshop also provided examples of good practices covering implementation of NAPs from the drafting phase to monitoring and evaluation; and determined the specific requirements for the Maldives and Cameroon and if/how UNDP and the Task Force might support each respective country moving forward.
