From 17-22 January 2016, Hedayah and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) conducted a joint capacity building workshop on “Participatory Approaches to facilitating Community Change: CVE through Education” in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The workshop offered participants interactive methods to enhance skills and develop more effective responses to violent extremism (VE).
During the course of the five-day workshop, participants were able to identify the value of participatory approaches and to explore participatory processes as a means for collective problem-solving.
Hedayah introduced the CVE lexicon and basic terminology to complement participants’ knowledge of violent extremism and trainers presented case studies and concrete examples of CVE within communities, emphasizing that communication and negotiation skills, as well as collaborative stakeholder engagement could play a relevant role in reducing the threat and positively empowering youth in the community.
