PCVE National Action Plans Task Force and Increased UK Support
On 21 September 2016, Hedayah welcomed the announcement of expanded support from the U.K. Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, in the margins of the UN General Assembly
The Foreign Secretary met with HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in New York, U.S.A. and praised the U.A.E. government for its strategic and financial support to Hedayah. Johnson also announced plans to make 1.4m USD annual funding available to the center for a number of international CVE programs.
This will also fund the launch of a PCVE National Action Plans Tasks Force, which will be run in partnership with the Global Center for Cooperative Security, from a new Hedayah satellite office in Washington D.C. The satellite office and Task Force will further expand Hedayah’s reach and credibility and work with governments across the world to develop National Action Plans to reduce the threat of violent extremism. This new initiative responds directly to the recommendations of the UN Secretary General that all governments should develop strategic responses to counter violent extremism.
