Hedayah convened the Sixth International Research Conference in partnership with Deakin University’s Alfred Deakin Institute, the AVERT Research Network, Deakin University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The event was sponsored in part by the European Union Commission, Government of Spain, the Government of Türkiye, and the Victorian State Government, Australia.
The Conference received over 85 research proposal submissions from researchers and academics working on countering extremism and violent extremism globally. It served as a platform to present leading research addressing the evolving nature of extremism and violent extremism.
Discussions highlighted the urgent need to adapt to new technologies and artificial intelligence to counter online threats. Participants also focused on the shifting dynamics of religiously-inspired and radical right extremism and violent extremism, and examined the roles of psychology, neuroscience, identity, hate speech, gender, education and resilience in enabling or preventing extremism and violent extremism.
