The International Research Conference

Date

30 October – I November 2017

Location

Antalya, Türkiye

Hedayah convened the Fourth International Research Conference in partnership with the Center for Middle Eastern and Strategic Studies and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The event opened with remarks from the Australian Embassy and the First Secretary of Türkiye, H.E. Tamsin Sanderson.

Sponsored in part by the Republic of Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Conference served as a platform for researchers and practitioners to share latest research and good practices in preventing and countering extremism and violent extremism.

The Conference addressed one of the core challenges in the P/CEVE filed: generating sufficient research and strengthening the evidence base to inform effective strategies and policies for mitigating drivers of radicalization, disrupting recruitment methods, and rehabilitating and reintegrating former foreign terrorist fighters. It also provided a space to identify emerging trends and priority needs.

Co-sponsors and strategic partners included the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), M&C Saatchi, Mercy Corps, Swansea University and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Content partners also included Adam Smith International, the Afghanistan Justice Organization, Aktis Strategy, the Asia Foundation, Creative Associates International, Development Alternatives Incorporated (DAI), European Union—Global STRIVE Program (Hedayah), the Global Center on Cooperative Security, the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism—the Hague (ICCT), Pakistan Peace Collective, Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), Wasafiri Consulting, and UN Women.
