Hedayah convened the Second International Research Conference in partnership with Edith Cowan University and New York University (NYUAD Institute).

Sponsored by the EU Commission and Rabdan Academy, the conference brought together over 175 practitioners, policymakers, academics and researchers to discuss the latest research on extremism and violent extremism.

The event featured three regional panels that explored the local push and pull factors driving radicalization and recruitment in the Horn of Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and South and Central Asia. Additionally, three thematic panels addressed online radicalization and recruitment, community engagement programs in Australia, and the role of education in preventing and countering extremism and violent extremism.

Strategic partners included CT MORSE, the Institute for Security Studies, the Global Center on Cooperative Security, the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (the Hague), TRENDS Research & Advisory, Swansea University, People against Violent Extremism and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

Additionally, on the margins of the Conference, Hedayah hosted an interactive discussion between the participants and students at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). Recognizing the importance of engaging youth in countering extremism and violent extremism, the session aimed to raise awareness and foster discussions between students and experts. Undergraduate students engaged directly with top researchers, policy makers, and practitioners exchanging insights and recommendations on key topics such as the role of social media, the psychology behind extremism and violent extremism, and rehabilitation and reintegration processes.
