Hedayah delivered a tailored training program for social workers and psychologists hosted by BRSAMPK Handayanifor in Indonesia. The training focused on strengthening participants’ capacities to work directly with individuals exposed to radicalization, terrorism, and Daesh-affiliated ideologies.
On the first day, Hedayah delivered five sessions covering key conceptual and contextual foundations. The opening session introduced critical terminology in the field of countering and preventing extremism and violent extremism (CEVE), deepening participants understanding of these terms. The second session explored the push and pull factors that influence individuals to join extremist and violent extremist networks, examined at both macro and individual levels. In the third session, Hedayah invited social workers and psychologists to study the history of extremist groups in Indonesia, followed by two sessions focused on the importance of the family unit and the role of women.
The second day concentrated on practical application and case-based learning. The sixth session addressed challenges faced when working with families linked to extremism and violent extremism. Participants discussed strategies to overcome trauma in relation to extremism and violent extremism. In the seventh and eighth sessions, Hedayah presented good practices in CEVE, drawing on case studies and lessons learned from field experience. The final sessions focused on building trust and developing interviewing techniques, risk assessments, and needs assessments. Emphasis was placed on sensitivity, situational awareness, and ethical engagement to ensure interventions are both informed and constructive.
