Building Youth Resilience and Preventing Radicalization Online in Tunisia #Skills4Resilience

As extremist groups increasingly exploit digital platforms to spread disinformation, hate speech, and propaganda, youth have become especially vulnerable to online radicalization.

To address this growing concern, Hedayah, in partnership with Tunisia’s Counter-Terrorism Commission (CNLCT) and with funding from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, launched a national program in 2024 to strengthen digital resilience and media literacy among young people.

The program delivered targeted training for government institutions and civil society organizations (CSOs) on media and information literacy, counter-messaging techniques, and the use of digital tools to identify and counter harmful content online. It also introduced resources developed by Hedayah and the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) and produced a contextualized guide to support local actors in countering extremist narratives in the Tunisian digital space.

Following the training, 92% of participants felt well-equipped to apply counter-messaging strategies in their daily work, and all participants reported high confidence in coordinating with other actors to counter extremism and violent extremism.

By fostering cross-sector collaboration and equipping stakeholders with practical, adaptable tools, the program contributes directly to the implementation of Tunisia’s National Strategy to Combat Violent Extremism and Terrorism (2023–2027). It reflects Hedayah’s broader commitment to building inclusive, prevention-focused responses to evolving digital threats.
