Counter-Narratives for CVE

From 18-19 June, Hedayah and the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism—the Hague (ICCT) convened a one and a half day expert roundtable called “Developing an Effective Counter-Narrative Framework for Countering Violent Extremism.”
The meeting brought together approximately 25 leading experts in the field to examine the different components of an effective counter-narrative framework and provide recommendations on its implementation.
The discussions at the meeting used a recently published background paper written by ICCT Research Fellow, Dr. Alex P. Schmid, as a starting point to identify the challenges with existing governmental and non-governmental counter-narrative frameworks against Al-Qaeda’s violent extremist narrative and to propose a number of ways forward.
The discussions resulted in concrete project proposals on counter-narratives that will be circulated to the international community.
