CVE National Strategies Workshop (UAE)

The workshop focused on the successes, failures, opportunities and challenges that states have faced in developing CVE strategies in the hopes that other states can learn from each other, develop new strategies or fine-tune existing strategies.
More than fifty participants from twenty-seven countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Russia, China and India attended the event. Under Chatham House Rules, senior government officials, members of security agencies and representatives of civil society involved in delivering policy-level responses to violent extremism discussed the importance of encouraging a more holistic approach to the development of state-level policies and strategies in CVE.
The workshop allowed international partners to share detailed information on their National CVE Strategies as well as specific elements within it. Participants provided examples of CVE approaches already applied on the ground across the world, with a focus on both wider counter-radicalization initiatives and specific de-radicalization projects.
In particular, the workshop also looked at encouraging the implementation CVE strategies through engagement grass root level through a more effective inclusion of civil society as well as assessing the type of support, training and capacity building that is required to enhance the effectiveness of state-level CVE efforts.
This workshop was focused under Hedayah’s pillar of Training and Capacity Building. Initiatives under the training pillar focuses on increasing global effectiveness for countering violent extremism through education, training, and the building of local capacity.
