The International CVE Research Conference
Date
7-8 December 2014
Location
Abu Dhabi, UAE
Hedayah co-hosted the First International Research Conference in collaboration with Curtin University, People Against Violent Extremism (PaVE), and the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Sponsored by the Government of Australia, the conference marked the launch of a planned annual series bringing together global scholars and practitioners to share timely, evidence-based insights on countering extremism and violent extremism.
The Conference provided a strategic platform to assess international P/CEVE efforts, explore innovative approaches, identify emerging trends, and strengthen global research coordination.
The concept for this conference originated at the 2013 CVE Symposium; Australia’s first national and international dialogue on countering violent extremism, co-hosted in Perth by Curtin University, PaVE, Macquarie University, and Hedayah. That symposium convened experts, policymakers, practitioners, and former extremists to critically assess and reflect on the future of the field.
The conference brought together representatives from over 30 countries, including government officials (particularly from research-focused ministries), academic institutions, and practitioners in countering extremism and violent extremism.
As a key outcome, Hedayah and Curtin University co-published an edited volume of concise essays, contributed by speakers and reflected the core themes and discussions from the Conference.
